CONTEST SPECIFICATIONS
A- ATTENDANCE
Every painter, Turkish citizen or not, who do not turn 40 years of age on 31st of December 2015 and at least participated in a group exhibition or held a solo exhibition can join the International Young Artist of the Year Contest organized by rh+artmagazine with the intention of discovering masters of the future and contributing to the dialogue of art and artists between countries.
B- PRIZE AND EXHIBITION
1- Prize of ‘Young Artist of the Year’ 5000 $
Second Prize 3000 $
Third Prize 2000 $
Three honorable mention 3 x 1000 $
2- rh+artmagazine will organize a solo exhibition and publish a catalogue for the Young Artist of the Year and make the winner painting cover of the magazine.
3- Prize winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd and honorable mention) will receive a plaque and a certificate each. (If an artist gets a ‘jury’s special award’ his/her paintings submitted to the Contest are also subject to the section D article 2, see below).
4- Prize winners will be interviewed for rh+artmagazine.
5- The jury will choose works to be exhibited between all artists’ works. The prize winners’ works and the chosen works will be exhibited for sale in a date and gallery which will be determined by rh+artmagazine. Prices will be determined by rh+artmagazine. Once a painting is sold the magazine’s share (%30) will be cut and the remaining amount will be given to the artist. Payments will occur depending collections.
6- 10 artists (excluding prize winners) will be chosen by rh+artmagazine from all participants and they will each be featured in the magazine’s ‘young artists’ column with interviews every month. For the artists living abroad or who can’t come to the magazine the interview will be made online.
7- Artists who couldn’t get an award or find a buyer in the auction may give away their works to the magazine’s painting collection. rh+artmagazine will feature the works’ images along with a greeting note.
C-PARTICIPATION
1- Artists will participate with two paintings.
2- Paintings can’t be shorter than 100 cm on the short side and longer than 200 cm on the long side.
3- Works must have been produced on toile or flat, permanent surface. Prints and photography are not admissible.
4- Materials and subject are free.
5- rh+artmagazine employees or their first degree relatives can’t participate.
6- The deadline to submit works is 19 October 2015.
7- Participating with two paintings is obligatory. Outsized or single work is inadmissible.
8- Name, surname and signature of the artist will be on the back of the paintings. And also a nickname consisting of two words will be written on the back.
9- A (non-refundable) admission fee of 50 $ will be deposited in the bank account below.
D- ADMISSION AND ASSESSMENT
1- Artists will send two actual paintings in given sizes cited above and a CD consisting of the visuals of their previous works, the information and documents of the previous contests they participated, their CV, address, phone number, e-mail and a photo of them (sending prints of these is commendable due to possible technical issues with the CDs) to rh+artmagazine’s address by shipping or hand-delivery until 30th of April 2015. Paintings from abroad will be shipped in a roll container, without frame. Domestic posts without frame won’t be admissible. Delays of arrival of paintings are participants’ responsibilities. Shipping fee is on the participant. Non Turkish participants will use English on their documents. rh+artagazine will not be held responsible for the possible damage or loss of the paintings during the transportation.
2- The jury will choose the 3 winners, plus 3 artists to have honorable mention award. The artist who will get the first prize will be declared “Young Artist of the Year”. Both works of each artist who will get any prize will be part of the magazine’s collection with all rights included. (If an artist gets a ‘jury’s special award’ his/her paintings submitted to the Contest are also subject to this article).
3- The works of artists who couldn’t have the chance to be exhibited (left outside the exhibition by jury), chosen by rh+artmagazine can be offered to collectors with approval of the artist. If the collector purchase a painting, the magazine will cut its own share (%30) and give the remaining amount to the artist. Payment will be made when the collection is made.
E-RETURNING OF THE SUBMITTED PAINTINGS
1- The works which didn’t win a prize and couldn’t be sold must be claimed within 30 days after the exhibition ends. If it’s requested the works will be shipped to the artists, shipping cost will be covered by them. The magazine will not be responsible for the works which are not claimed within 30 days. Plus a storehouse rent, 2 $ per day, will be demanded for these works.
2- rh+artmagazine reserves the right to change contest rules in obligatory cases during the contest but can’t change them after the results are announced (except the date of exhibition).
3- Participation in this competition is deemed acceptance of these contest rules by the participants. In case of dispute participants and the magazine agree that the courts of Istanbul shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
