Terms and Conditions of the 5th International
Sculpture Symposium in Differdange
May 20, 2015 until May 31, 2015:
“Body language
Expressions du corps humain”
Article 1
The local authorities of the city of Differdange (Luxembourg), in collaboration with its cultural commission, organize the 5th edition of the International Sculpture Symposium from May 20, 2015 until May 30, 2015, which is going to take place in the city park in the centre of Differdange.
This event is dedicated to the following objectives
- to acquaint Luxembourgish spectators with artistic currents of contemporary sculpture
- to popularize art and sculpture
- to promote the participating artists’ work
- to produce unique artworks that will become part of the cultural heritage of the
City of Differdange
Article 2
The number of sculptors attending this meeting is limited to 6.
The artists work in an open-air workspace, protected and adequately lit by the organizer.
The selected artists carve during 10 days and work with a marble stone block “Moleanos” (maximal dimensions: (100x80x80 cm) (monolithic) that will be funded by the organizer. The assembly of the material will be assumed by the organizer.
Each sculptor will have at his disposal the necessary materials and facilities (electricity, compressed air and water) as specified in the agreement with the organizer. The sculptors must use their own tools to achieve their sculptures.
The symposium will take place regardless of adverse weather conditions.
Article 3rd
For this edition, the theme is going to be “Body language – Expressions du corps humain”.
The chosen material for this 5th edition is marble.
Article 4
Due to the large number of applications, the organizer is going to select a limited number of proposals.
6 artists will therefore be selected by a selection panel, based on their submissions which should include the project that they are going to achieve in Differdange within
10 days (beginning of the symposium on Wednesday 20st of May 2015. The sculptures must be finished imperatively on Sunday, 31st of May at 5 p.m.): day of the closing ceremony.
The sculptors will receive their artist’s fee the same day.
The selection panel is composed of professionals and representatives of the municipality.

- Agreement (attachment)
- Curriculum vitae
- 5 photos of achieved sculptures – at least one monumental sculpture
- Drawing and model (scale: 1/10th of the project considered)
- A brief summary of the project
- A recent photo of the artist
In the event that the sculptor could not manage to realize his work due to his absence, the agreement will immediately be terminated: this implies the cancellation of the order, the accommodation and the catering as well as the refund of all the fees related to the material initially ordered for the artist. Another artist, who had been selected but features on a waiting list, is going to be invited to participate in the symposium instead of the initially chosen artist.

(The organizer reserves the right to apply amendments to the duration of the event and the number of sculptors)
The selection of the candidates is carried out by a selection panel on the basis of their submissions. Their admission to the symposium will be communicated to the successful candidates on February 28, 2015, at the latest.
The selection panel’s decision is final.
Article 5
Each participating sculptor will receive an artist’s fee of 1400 euros (one thousand four hundred euros) at the end of the symposium.
Article 6
The accommodation of the non-resident artists as well as the catering (meals/drinks) of all the participating sculptors will be ensured and assumed by the organizing body from Tuesday evening (May 19th, 2015) to Monday morning (June 1st, 2015). No additional costs can be charged to the organizer.
The accompanying guests are required to pay themselves for their accommodation, meals and beverages. Please indicate the number of guests in advance.
Article 7
The local authorities reserve the right to publish the reproduction of the artworks for the purpose of informing, advertising and publishing. The sculptures will become the promoter’s property and will be installed in the municipality of Differdange. The artists maintain the moral right to his work.
The promotion of this event will be secured by sending material to the press
(newspapers, tv/radio broadcasting) on a local, national and international level.
Article 8
The artist undertakes his work under his own responsibility and he ensures that all the necessary safety measures are observed. He is responsible for taking out an insurance regarding his civil liability and needs to provide evidence of his social security affiliation.
