Time has come to tell this: Vietnam is not a war, it is a country. Long time passed after the (pro)American movies and sympathetic documentaries. Vietnam is now known as a country of transition more or less resembling Asia in general. That was why -we were told by Dr. Gezgin who poses both as an academic and a journalist- this book is called as ‘Vietnam & Asia in Flux’. This flow is not auspicious for researchers however:
“Since Vietnamese economy is a transition economy, the parameters have changed so frequently that economists studying Vietnamese development experience time lags between their explanation and the practice, most of the time. Preparing economics reports takes time and in the meanwhile the economy changes again, turning some of the proposals in the papers obsolete. Thus Vietnamese economy poses one of Zeno’s paradoxes for the researchers.”

Hakkında Prof. Dr.Ulaş Başar Gezgin
1978 İstanbul doğumlu Prof.Dr. Ulaş Başar Gezgin, Türkiye, Vietnam, Tayland ve Malezya’da 19 yıl ders verme deneyimine ve Yeni Zelanda (doktora), Avustralya (ortak proje) ve Latin Amerika’da (gazetecilik) araştırma deneyimine sahip bir akademisyen-yazardır. Eğitimini Darüşşafaka (1989-1996), Boğaziçi Üniversitesi (Eğitim Bilimleri, lisans, 2000; Sosyal Psikoloji, yüksek lisans 2002), ODTÜ (Bilişsel Bilimler, doktora, 2006) ve yurtdışında (2009, üniversite düzeyinde ders verme yetkisi, Avustralya; Darmstadt Teknik Üniversitesi, Şehir Plancılığı, yüksek lisans, 2011) tamamlayan Gezgin’in toplam 100 kitabı bulunmaktadır. Akademik çalışmalar dışında, çeşitli dergi ve gazetelere köşe yazıları yazmakta; şiir, şarkı sözü, şarkı, deneme, yazınsal inceleme, öykü, film öyküsü, film çözümlemesi, tiyatro oyunu, masal ve roman türlerinde yapıtlar vermekte ve çeşitli ülkelerden şairleri ve şarkıcıları Türkçe’ye kazandırmaktadır. Ayrıca henüz gün yüzü görmemiş 100’ü aşkın bestesi bulunmaktadır. Çeşitli çalışmaları 12 dile (Türkçe, İngilizce, Fransızca, Almanca, İspanyolca, İtalyanca, Rusça, Japonca, Vietnamca, Tayca, Gürcüce ve Azerbaycanca) çevrilmiştir.
