The Bright Door Residency
Bright Door offers a ten-day residency for artists, scholars and community leaders. Located in the Lowcountry of Beaufort, SC, one of the many Sea Islands along the South Carolina coastline, this five-room 1,000 sq. ft. cottage in a racially diverse neighborhood is set within a residential community known as Pigeon Point.
This comfortable cottage has a quiet backyard and kind neighbors. It has plenty of natural light, and is equipped with overhead fans in each room, AC and Heating system, and cooking facilities.
Founded with the purpose of encouraging the development of creative ideas and projects, the residency allows for private use of the cottage and is geared towards those with the maturity and desire to explore the community and the environment independently.
The ten days are intended for retreat, research, and the drafting of creative projects. Artists and researchers particularly interested in environmental studies, plein air painting, landscape art, drawing, composing, writing, research of Gullah culture, The Civil War, Slavery, Reconstruction are great fits for this residency, as are leaders in all fields looking for inspiration in their work. However, the residency is not restricted to those areas, so all are welcome to apply.
