The first museum exhibition devoted to the Indian influences in Clemente’s work and how they relate to the artistic practices and traditions of various regions in India features approximately 20 works, including paintings from the last 30 years, and four new, larger than life-size sculptures created especially for the exhibition. In contrast to leading conceptual art practices of the 1970s, Clemente refocused attention on representation, narrative, and the

Jean Schwind (1935-1985) was the most notorious and enigmatic figure in Belgian art in the 1970s. After studying French literature and working as a research assistant at Ghent University, at the end of the 1960s he found his way into the art scene. In 1970 he showed large format erotic drawings at the Fitzroy Gallery in Brussels, and the following year exhibited the Schwind Collection, a series of remakes by the nouveaux réalistes. The confusion was only increased by the fact that hardly anyone

Henri Chotteau legacy: François Morellet, S.M.A.K., (13.09.2014 – 11.01.2015)

In 2012 the S.M.A.K. received a generous bequest from the estate of the Brussels collector Henri Chotteau (1947-2012). It consisted almost entirely of important works by the French artist François Morellet (1926, Cholet). Chotteau had an extraordinary passion for Morellet’s oeuvre. He had already donated works by this artist to the S.M.A.K. in 2004 and in the context of the solo exhibition in 2007. The museum now possesses 24 works by Morellet from Choteau’s collection, making it one of the

Akbank Sanat 2014-15 sezonunu dünya çapında bir sergiyle açıyor. 20.
Akbank Sanat opens the 2014-2015 season with a worldwide exhibition. This will be the most comprehensive exhibition to date of works by one of the most prominent founders of the conceptual art of 20th century, conceptual artist and poet Marcel Broodthaers who is regarded to be an école in his own right. Besides using writing, words and text as subjects in his wide-ranging conceptual works, Broodthaers has also situated ‘ready-mades’ at the center of his work. Moreover, after a while he started studying extensively at the conceptual level and built the backbone of his art from concepts. Due to these qualities of his, Broodthaers have been regarded as one of those artists whose works have given birth to contemporary art as a full-fledged field of art. The exhibition has been organized in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum van Actuele Kunst (SMAK) in Gent, which holds the largest collection of works by the artist. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of additional events such as conferences and film screenings.
