In the latest video “Marilyn Monroe” by the American musician Pharell Williams, who created the summer hit of 2013 “Get Lucky” with the band Daft Punk, a remarkable portrait of a young woman appears after having played the song for 4 minutes and 14 seconds. This portrait is this remarkable that you instantly have to switch back to investigate this odd-looking composite-being. After having looked at it a couple of times one slowly recognizes that it is a painted on face on a cloth which a young girl is wearing over her head… But is it really a cloth and not rather a mask which the pro-tagonist is wearing? Why does the skin look so similar to the colour of skin in real life? And her hair is falling in an extraordinary beautiful way on her middle parting… Her eyes, nose and mouth are painted on, this is a fact but the rest looks very real indeed. After having winded back and forward a couple of times one finally understands it and one is amazed and stunned by this very simple effect. The protagonist got a second face painted on her cheek with only one eye, the other one is her own, the sides are swopped and her hair covers the invisible real eye, the nose and the mouth. Portraits with unique expressions and an illustrating sensitivity have been created. Those portraits are so highly fascinating that one does not want to avert his eyes anymore.
The artist who amazes us with his simplicity is called Sebastian Bieniek and he was born in Czarnowanz, Poland in 1975. He now lives and works in Berlin. Those photos have been discovered in September 2013 for the first time and they became a sensation through digital media. Abruptly those photos have been passed on blogs and also on digital art- and design magazines. Within a few weeks his photos have become world-famous. The number of his fans on Facebook rose from a few hundreds to 92000 within a couple of days. Only very little time had passed until his photos with the censure “Inspired by Sebastian Bieniek” were imitated en masse especially in the USA and in Asia. Pharrell Williams was one of the countless people who had stumbled over one of these photos and he was so fascinated by this photo that he used it in his latest video clip.

Auf dem neuesten Video ‘Marilyn Monroe’ des amerikanischen Musikers Pharrell Williams, der letztes Jahr den absoluten Sommerknüller ‘Get Lucky’ mit Daft Punk landete, taucht nach 4 Minuten und 14 Sekunden ein merkwürdiges Portrait einer jungen Dame auf, so merkwürdig und irritierend, dass sofort zurückgezappt werden muss um dieses seltsame Mischwesen zu eruieren. Nach mehrmaligem Visieren erkennt man es – es ist ein aufgemaltes Gesicht auf einem Tuch, das ein junges Mädchen über dem Kopf trägt… Doch ist es wirklich ein Tuch, nicht eher eine Maske die die Protagonistin trägt? Doch warum sieht die Haut so Hautfarben aus, so echt? Und die Haare fallen so schön und natürlich im Mittelscheitel…. Die Augen, Nase und Mund sind gemalt, das ist Fakt, doch der Rest scheint echt. Nach mehrmaligem vor und zurückspulen fällt der Groschen endlich und man ist verblüfft und fassungslos über den Effekt der Einfachheit. Der Protagonistin wurde auf Ihre Wange ein zweites Gesicht gemalt mit nur einem Auge, das andere ist Echt, nur die Seite vertauscht und die Haare verdecken das unsichtbare echte Auge sowie Nase und Mund. Es sind Portraits mit einzigartigen Ausdrücken und illustrativer Sensibilität entstanden, die dermaßen Faszinierend sind, dass man das Auge nicht mehr abwenden möchte.
Der Künstler, der mit dieser Einfachheit so verblüfft heißt Sebastian Bieniek, 1975 in Czarnowanz, Polen geboren, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.
Zum ersten Mal sind diese Fotos im September 2013 aufgetaucht und wurden durch die digitalen Medien zur Sensation. Schlagartig wurden die Fotos auf Blogs, aber auch auf digitalen Kunst- und Designmagazinen weitergereicht und wurden innert Wochen weltberühmt. Die Zahl seiner Fans auf Facebook in wenigen Tagen von ein paar Hundert auf 92’000 gestiegen. Bereits nach kurzer Zeit wurden die Fotos mit dem Verweis “Inspired by Sebastian Bieniek” insbesondere in den USA und Asien massenweise imitiert. Pharrell Williams war einer der unzähligen, die über diese Fotos stolperten und war so fasziniert, dass er es in seinem neusten Video verwendet hat.
