Bugün hepimiz medyanın çocukları sayılırız. Biçimlendirdiği yeni enformasyon yapıları ile çekim merkezimiz haline gelen sosyal medyaya tıpkı örümceğin görkemli tasarımıyla yaptığı ağa doğru çekilmesi gibi hızla çekiliyoruz. İmaj, imge ve gerçeği arasında kopamadığımız ancak tutsak kalmayı da istemediğimiz karmaşık ama sıkı bir bağ oluştu.
Kendimizi sürekli güncelleyerek her gün biraz daha doluyor ve yükleniyoruz. Bu bağlamda Şeyda Cesur’un UPDATE ismini verdiği yeni sergisinde, sanatçı sanatı yoluyla müdahalede bulunur. Üst üste gelerek birbirini örten yağlı boya katmanlarıyla eserlerini oluşturan Cesur, bu şekilde farklı bir teknik dil kurar. Sanatçının ifadesiyle: “Yaratmayı engelleyen her şey eninde sonunda yaratmayı kamçılar. Ben çalışmalarımda farkına varmanın, sorgulamanın, yargılamanın, kısacası imgenin biçime dönüşmüş hâlini ironik bir kurgu ile örtüştürüyorum. İmgeyle ve özellikle tekrar dönüşen tarafıyla ilgileniyorum. İmge ve gerçeği arasındaki bu kurgu mutlaka sanatçıyı da içine alır. Çünkü sanatçının sezgi ve duygu dünyasına dair her şey bu kurguya eklenmiştir. En etkili vurgularından birini Âşık Veysel’in “Güzelliğin on par’etmez / Bu bendeki aşk olmasa” dizelerinde bulan bu durum, insan zihni ve sezgileri olamadan varlığın anlamsızlığını ortaya koyar.İmge, duyuyla edinilen bir deneyimin zihindeki görüntüsü; diğer bir deyişle düşünsel bir resimdir. Her bir imge dış dünyaya ait gözlemleri bulundurur ve bir seçme yapar. Sanatçı bu süreçte bir katalizördür, duyarlılığı ve hayal gücüyle seçtiği bu nesneler arasında bir bağlantı kurar, bu bağlantıyı günceller ve modernize eder. Sanatçı bu şekilde algısının farkını ortaya koyar. O “anda” kalır.”
“UPDATE” sergisinin açılış kokteyli 25.11.2014 tarihinde 18:00 – 20:00 saatleri arasında gerçekleşecektir. Sergi 20.12.2014 tarihine kadar MERKUR’de görülebilir.

We can all be considered as the children of media today. We are being swiftly attracted to social media which has become our center of attraction by shaping its own information structures in the way a spider is attracted to the web it crafted with marvelous design. There occurred a complex yet strong bond among the image, imagery and reality which we cannot escape but we also do not want to be imprisoned by.
We are more and more charged and loaded as we constantly update ourselves. From this perspective, the artist Şeyda Cesur interferes via her art in her new exhibition titled UPDATE, By putting layers of oil paint on top of one another, the artists works on a different technical language. Artist’s own statement: “Everything which hinders creativity ultimately end sup promoting it. In my works, I bring the act of realization, questioning and judgment, in short the image turned into form, together with an ironic set up. I am interested in the image and especially its recycling nature. The setup between the image and reality definitely includes the artist as everything concerning the artist’s world or instinct sand emotions adds upto it. Finding one of its most powerful expressions in Âşık Veysel’s verse “Your beauty is worthless / if my love wouldn’t exist”, this situation clearly shows the meaningless nature of existence without the human mind and intuitions. Image is the manifestation of an experience gained through the senses in the human mind, in other words, an intellectual representation. Every image consists of observations related to the external world and makes a selection. The artist’s role in the process is that of a catalyzer as s/he makes connections among the objects chosen through perception and imagination. S/he constantly update sand modernize these connection sand thus expresses the difference of his or her perception. S/he stays in “that moment”.
The opening cocktail of the exhibition “UPDATE” will be on 25 November 2014, between18:00 – 20:00. The exhibition can be visited at MERKUR till December 20, 2014.
