About the work of Jennifer Oellerich
The artist as a mediator: Jennifer Oellerich has developed a unique and endearing process of building her images. The works often become a residue of a specific moment, which is not constructed but rather captured. Her role as a witness becomes more evident through the way she constructs her works, where she steps away from playing the protagonist. Instead she laboriously constructs an entire setting, or a stage to let

We surround ourselves with portraits—we like to see our families, friends, and pets looking back at us. We line hallways with our leaders and heroes. We hang up pictures of people we don’t even know (but wish we did), perhaps hoping they can see us too. We feel a connection to a time, or a story, or ourselves, through the image of another’s face. The most famous painting in the world is a portrait, and still no one is sure who she was. We have discovered portraits that were

| Akbank Sanat 2014-15 sezonunu dünya çapında bir sergiyle açıyor. 20. |
| Akbank Sanat opens the 2014-2015 season with a worldwide exhibition. This will be the most comprehensive exhibition to date of works by one of the most prominent founders of the conceptual art of 20th century, conceptual artist and poet Marcel Broodthaers who is regarded to be an école in his own right. Besides using writing, words and text as subjects in his wide-ranging conceptual works, Broodthaers has also situated ‘ready-mades’ at the center of his work. Moreover, after a while he started studying extensively at the conceptual level and built the backbone of his art from concepts. Due to these qualities of his, Broodthaers have been regarded as one of those artists whose works have given birth to contemporary art as a full-fledged field of art. The exhibition has been organized in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum van Actuele Kunst (SMAK) in Gent, which holds the largest collection of works by the artist. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of additional events such as conferences and film screenings. |
