Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck is known for his diverse work, including immersive installations, sculptures, video works, texts, drawings, photography, and watercolour paintings. Over the past decade, he has also ventured into theatre, opera, and contemporary dance as a playwright, stage director, scenographer, and costume designer. Op de Beeck is renowned for his monumental, immersive installations, inviting viewers into enigmatic, frozen scenes, sparking contemplation and wonder.

In his first solo museum exhibition in Shanghai, Op de Beeck presents two main components: a projection room showcasing his new animated film “Vanishing Point” (2023-2024) and a drawing room featuring recent sculptures and watercolour paintings. The exhibition’s title, “Drifting,” alludes to the sensation of mentally and physically floating and surrendering to forces beyond one’s control. Op de Beeck explores themes of transition, death, and the dream world, inviting viewers to engage with their imaginations rather than relying on psychoanalytic interpretations.
