| Dacia Gallery is proud to announce it’s Artist Residency Program for summer 2014 in picturesque, Sibiu, Romania. The city is located in Transylvania at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. Dacia’s Artist Residency provides an academic program to inspire, refine and redefine the creative direction of artists in a painting intensive two-week program. Artists will meet daily at Dacia’s Artist Studio, located in the center of Sibiu’s two grand plazas, in the catacombs beneath the Catholic Basilica that once served as a secretive masonic temple. This expansive hall of exposed brick-vaulted ceilings is where the artist shall paint the figure from life. On the weekdays when landscape classes are held, artists will flee the catacombs to paint the old city, its churches, plazas, restaurants and cafes that line the cobblestone streets. Trips will also be taken outside the old city to the surrounding villages that are still untouched by modernization. Here artists can find inspiration to paint in the open fields, cascading rivers and the surrounding mountain peaks. As for the nights and weekends, artists may find themselves at the studio painting, or mingling with friends at one of the many restaurants, cafes, pubs, or enjoying concerts, theatrical shows and weekend fairs in the grand plaza. Additionally, the weekends include field trips to several regional art and history museums and medieval Byzantine monasteries to study ancient frescos and icons. And what’s a trip to Romania without a visit through the mysterious forests and serpentines that lead to the medieval castle of Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Lastly, Dacia Gallery will host a celebration commencing the end of the artistic journey with the resident artists. The resident artists will also participate in a group exhibition in New York City displayed at Dacia Gallery. |
